I bought a pack of avocados in asda a few days ago,i was going to use them in a salad, they were about 75p each,i noticed a pack with 4 in it and got them instead, last night I tried to use them in my salad but they were quite small and the white was very hard, have I got the wrong thing or should they be used for something else,if so what can I do with them,i have 3 left, they're so hard I can hardly peel or cut them.

Do not put them in the fridge. Try putting a banana with them. Should ripen in a few days.

they sound under-ripe, leave in a cool dark place, not the fridge.

Simply wait and they will ripen and soften, especially at room temperature.
I would put them in a brown paper bag and leave them at room temperature in the kitchen. That is supposed to ripen them. Then I would make guacamole.
not sure about Asda but some chains split them into "ripen at home" and "ready to eat". Sounds like you have the former. There's always a chance that they'll turn into black mush without going through an edible green stage, unfortunately.
Ripen at home seems to be a big con.
Leave them on a sunny windowsill for about 3 days. They may be ripe enough for Sunday tea but might even take until Mon or Tue to ripen. They need to feel slightly soft to touch before trying them. They are bug9ers for being too hard to eat when you buy them!

thank you,i have them in the fridge,i will put them in the fruit bowl with the bananas,i thought I got a bargain,4 for a pound, but at the moment unedible,i will make guacamole when they ripen.
You need to wait until you can just squeeze either end and feel them a little squashy, they are not ripe yet.
Put them in a paper bag with a banana (NOT in the fridge) and they should be soft enough to eat in a couple of days

I don't agree there. You cannot expect all stores/supermarkets/corner shops to have all their avocados 'ready to eat' at 8am so that they are all perfect for the evening meal; and repeat the process everyday. It is logistically impractical.
I work at Morrisons and we sell RTE which need at least two days at home next to the bananas and Ripen at Home which I would think need about five days to ripen.
RTE which need two days? That's not ready to eat!
I always ripen them at home. If I buy them Monday, they'll be ripe by Friday. They should just 'give' a bit at the stem end. When they do become ripe, then they can go in the fridge.
Go and buy your fruit and vegetables at a Greengrocers . The supermarkets mainly buy produce that has a long shelf life. They do not worry about taste or flavour .
