"Beauty Blunders" result in home insurance claims

Most men and women's bathrooms are fully-stocked with hundreds of beauty products, whether it's styling gel or fake tan, it seems that everyone is obsessed with looking their best.

Although these beauty products are intended for use on the body, its often the case that a bottle gets dropped and ends up spilling everywhere, resulting in ruined rugs and splattered walls.

"Many recent home insurance claims have been made due to beauty blunders", one insurance expert has claimed.

Research conducted found that cosmetic products and technology has caused an average of £153 of harm to British homes during the last 12-month period - a combination of beauty product catastrophes and DIY disasters.

This could be a result of the fact that 32 per cent of respondents have increased the cash and time they spend on grooming themselves in their house, despite the majority being hard-up due to the effects of the recession.

A total of 28 per cent admitted they had damaged their home or its contents when applying a wide range of beauty products – with 52 per cent specifically mentioning ruining their beds with fake tan.

Nail varnish was the biggest culprit overall, followed by hair dye, straighteners, mascara and foundation, all ruining homes and their contents across the UK.

Spokesperson for the firm said: "Having accidental damage cover added onto your home insurance policy is very important as these beauty blunders become increasingly more common".

"Check with your insurer to see if you are covered for such accidents and mishaps, or read your policy small-print to ensure you're covered".
