Act Now On Motor Insurance Or Face The Penalties

16:36 Mon 24th May 2010 |

Motorists who are at risk of being caught up in the latest blitz on the uninsured on our roads should act now if they want to keep their cars, the motor insurance industry has warned. The motor insurance industry estimates that as many as 1.2 million are driving without insurance in the UK.

Their chances of being caught have recently got significantly higher, motor insurance companies warn. Police have embarked on a national crackdown, backed up by new technology and some stiff penalties.

Roadside teams will be able to use camera technology linked to a national motor insurance database to instantly pinpoint the uninsured. Drivers caught without motor insurance will see their cars impounded and could have them crushed if they do not pay off hefty fines.

"Everyone has an incentive to see the problem of uninsured drivers reduced," said a motor insurance spokesman. "Uninsured drivers add to the cost of every car insurance premium, which is just not fair on those that stay within the law."

"We know that even tough campaigns like this are unlikely to get the criminal element to change their ways, but there are a large number of uninsured drivers that either forgot to reinsure or just think they cannot afford to."
