I have a lovely dark red velvety top that just collects dust and lint the moment it comes out of the drawer, so it looks awful even when clean, is there any way to stop this happening please?

After you have washed it, rinse in some diluted hair conditioner. The problem is that static is attracting dust, and the conditioner may help avoid this.

Hand wash it by itself.
Just an idea - hang it up with a bag over it? or are you referring to washing it?

many thanks, I will do that Jenny, it does seem like static as the dust seem to fly to the top as I watch, like it does to a tv screen when you dust it in the sun shine.
Have a look on Google for 'clothes anti static spray'. John Lewis and Tesco feature amongst others.
