I keep finding these small slithering creature's all over my flat, mainly in my bath but they are also in my kitchen cupboards and i caught one bombing it under the gap in the laminated flooring, i put the bath plug in my bath, thinking that they maybe coming up through that but they still end up in my bath so maybe they are appearing from somewhere else but ending up in my bath? i have just took a picture of one http://i797.photobuck...evo2k7/ABCD0001-3.jpg but i need to know where to release them as i dont want them dying if released in the wrong places. Anyone know what they are called? cheers. Kev

They are absolutely harmless. They like damp places. They don't do any damage, but obviously you want rid of them. Have you got a damp garage or shed. They should be OK.

It's nice that someone doesn't automatically step on things they don't want in the house, like spiders, silverfish, etc. Well done. Kev.

I think it might be a silverfish

looks like a silverfish to me as well
Yep, silverfish.
Yup, I'd say that was a silverfish too. Used to get them in my mother's house many moons ago, back in the pre-central heating days when frost appeared on the inside of windows in winter.

Many thanks for your super fast help peeps, looks like im plagued with Silverfish lol, i live in an old house victorian house thats converted into four flats, private ground floor flat and although it looks lovely, i think that it is full of damp underneath the laminated flooring but the landlord has just done it all up so that the damp spots are covered over and it looks nice etc, im outta here soon as i cant be doing with finding these all the time, and because i dont believe in killing anything, i always end up letting them go through a little hole in a cupboard in my bathroom that looks as though it leads to the bathroom next door! ha probably making them breed more than ever! ha thanks again everybody. im impressed and greatful for your speedy replies! ;)
Not sure they are actually harmless - they will eat things like wallpaper and books given the chance. They don't transmit disease though - but you may prefer not to eat food they have walked or moulted or crapped on.

It's the damp that attracts them
I suppose large quantities would be a problem. I don't worry about the odd few that I see.
But I have probably eaten worse things the silver fish crap or moult in my time and survived. I'm sure we all have and not known it!! ;o)

2shortplanks, totally agree with you mate! had my suspicions about the damp a few times through patches coming through the wallpaper here an there, my landlord is money mad and hasn't even put Central heating in so im gonna get onto her this week and demand Central heating or im gone!! its not too bad in the Summer but the Winter is rough ride! maybe Central heating will sort the damp out, but if not im gone anyway as it is £100 a week which is quite a lot for this area and it wouldn't cost much more for one of these new fancy apartments that are being built everywhere.
Kevo when are you going to change that avatar of yours? It gives me the heebie jeebies. X
Kev, I should think you need heating this summer too. Hope you get yourself sorted out with somewhere and that it's nice and warm. x

Thanks Lofty, its my first flat since i left my mums house a couple of year's ago and i do love it there and ive made great friends with my neighbours above me but its such a shame that the damp is a proving to be a problem as i would hate to have to move but will see what the landlord has to say about Central heating, the neighbours are also gonna demand it, so people power should prevail! ha Ladybirder i have forgotton how to change avatar? i remember it being a real nuisance just getting an avatar up on here in the first place lol can u direct me to the instructions please? ta ;)
Kevo keep your logo if you like it, you don't have to change it for me. Only kidding - I just find it a bit scary. You have to go to Gravatar to change it if you really want to. Remember? X
