Evening all. Is there a way to keep an amarylis bulb until the end of the year, and then get it to flower again? I seem to remember reading 'how to do' some years ago but cannot remember it now. Thanks a lot. OH would be delighted.

Mine is on it's fifth or sixth year. When it has finished flowering, cut the flower stalk back when it has started to go limpish. After a few weeks, the leaves will start to wilt and these can then be cut back level with the top of the bulb. Make sure you keep the compost dry and put the pot in a cool place. After a few weeks, the leaves will start to wilt and these can then be cut back level with the top of the bulb. Make sure you keep the compost dry and put the pot in a cool place. Start watering again towards November time and this will encourage the bulb to start producing new leaves. These bulbs are Spring flowering but often they are sold as Christmas bulbs. The bulbs like to be pot-bound too - mine has roots actually breaking through the plastic pot but it is still perfectly happy!!
