BioShock

BioShock was one of the best selling games of 2007, receiving critical acclaim across the board, making it one of the highest scoring games of all time.

2K games chose to incorporate a unique mix of role-playing, survival horror and first-person shooter elements into BioShock, as well as giving gamers a captivating storyline to boot, something that a lot of casual gamers had never experienced before.

BioShock is set in the underwater city of Rapture, founded by wealthy industrialist Andrew Ryan. Rapture was built as an escape for those who felt oppressed by political, religious and economic authority on land, creating a utopia for free-thinkers and scientists across the world.

After the discovery of ADAM, a raw genetic material that could be used to re-write DNA, Rapture fell into disarray as its citizens became “hooked” on the addictive substance. ADAM could give the user special abilities like telekinesis, but could also horrifically mutate the body.

BioShock is rich in story and setting, making it one of the “must play” games of the 7th generation console era. If you haven’t played BioShock yet, you can pick a copy up for no more than £10 at Game or Gamestation, an absolute bargain considering that amazing scope of this near-perfect masterpiece.
