Onion rings are a great side dish, perfect with steak, burgers or hotdogs and are a tasty alternative to chips. Onion rings are quick and easy to cook, all you need to do is slice the onions into rings, make a batter and deep fry.

This recipe is for a beer batter, but if you would rather not use beer soda water is a good substitute. The bubbles and yeast in the beer make the batter light and fluffy. Refrigerating the batter, so that it is cold, means that it will soak up less oil when cooking, which also keeps the batter fluffy.

These delicious onion rings will go down a storm with children and adults. A yummy quick snack, perfect to nibble on during a film or a football match.

Ingredients

  • 3 onions, sliced into rings
  • 2 eggs
  • 300g flour
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Pinch salt
  • 200ml beer

  1. Mix together the eggs, flour, olive oil and salt.
  2. Gradually whisk in the beer to form a smooth batter.
  3. Refrigerate batter for 1 hour.
  4. Dip onions into batter and deep fry onions in batches until golden brown.
