Gluten Free Pizza Base

Homemade pizza taste fabulous and unless you find a little family run Italian restaurant with an Italian mama or papa cooking or get on a plane to Sicily you will struggle to find a better pizza, takeaway pizzas do not compare.

Homemade pizzas are so easy to make and the best bit is that you can pick whatever topping you like. So for anyone who is gluten intolerant trying and failing to find a wheat free take away or frozen pizza you’re not missing out, this is a simple pizza base recipe that taste great and you can adapted by adding herbs, chillies and spices to make it suit you and make it really delicious.

Ingredients

  • 425g rice flour
  • 350ml lukewarm water
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp dried yeast
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Method

  1. Mix the yeast with the sugar and salt in a large bowl, pour the water , leave for 10 minutes in a warm dry place while the yeast reacts and a froth appears on top.
  2. Stir the olive oil in and sift half the flour in. Gradually add the rest of the flour in while kneading dough until it is not sticky anymore.
  3. Make the dough into a ball and cover in a little bit of oil, place the dough into a well oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap. Let dough rise for 45 minutes, the dough should have doubled in size.
  4. Roll out the base on a pizza pan.
  5. Add topping of your choice.
  6. Pre-heated oven at 220C/ Gas mark 7 and bake for 20-30 minutes until.
