WHATdo you buy for the cook who has everything Why, the ultimate kitchen gadget of course.

Here are a few suggestions:

Electric pepper grinder - comes complete with light in case you can't find the pan

Poultry shears - for cutting up chickens in those hard to get at places

Fish tweezers - because fish can be slippery litle suckers

Garlic peeler - a plastic tubethat rolls the clove free of its papery shell

Cast iron pestle and mortar - too heavy to slide about while grinding

Portuguese Cataplana - a copper pan made of two domed lids which clamp together and steam meat into perfect tenderness

Cheese knife - not just a serated edge, but holes in the blade so that slices are clean and not squashed

Pasta drying stand - because we all make our own pasta nowadays, don't we

Ham stand - so that when it is carvedit falls inbeautiful slices onto the plate underneath

Oyster clamp with knife - spare those fingers - the clamp holds the shell while you twist the knife
