Miller and Carter is very middle of the road, nothing special.Depends on the occasion, who you are dining with, your budget and your expectations. Some people prefer relaxed, casual dining to more formal establishments.

Slug????

Did you really mean to type that?

That's the chain tuvok, not an item from the menu!

Slug and lettuce ? Not without a long term reservation you didn't .

Why do you say that, anne?  The Slug and Lettuce has plenty of tables available for this evening, I've just checked their booking site.

The new Jewish franchise gets a good name.

The Oy Vey.

Where Barry ? Never has the s& l been available for passing trade. But I stand corrected, and I should not get involved in these threads .  By all means remove my posts if I'm seen here again .

I checked Abbey's local venue - Cardiff.   Just checked Wolverhampton and they have plenty of availability for tonight, too.

I've always thought slug and lettuce would be like Wetherspoons.

I've never been inside a Slug and Lettuce but I've just looked at their menu - do you really have to book well in advance for a £12 mac and cheese or a £14 cheese burger?

Not the sort of food I want when I go out for dinner.

Seems to be, going by their menu, pasta

I have only heard of one of the places Abbey mentioned and that's The Ivy. A friend of mine has been there several times and she wouldn't be seen dead in the Slug and Lettuce.

These are 2 completely different places, but wherever you are going out to eat, I think it's always best to phone to ask if you need to make a reservation.

Places like the Ivy would need to be booked well in advance, but the Slug and Lettuce may not even require a reservation on a bog-standard night.

Never heard of that place either.

No, the Slug is just a pub chain serving ding meals, the one nearest my home seems to be mainly used by students.

Gone are the days when 7.95 bought a meal in those places...and not a particularly nice one. Something to absorb the beer.

No way would I pay £10 for a burger!.

andres, no way would I eat a burger unless it was at an external event such as a game fair.

£10 might be cheap.

Whay I don't understand is that for the past twelve months or so we have had numerous reports of people not being able to afford this, that and the other. Tales of woe and misery and then Christmas comes and money is being thrown around like 'there's no tomorrow'.

Well you can't beat a bit of microwaved food at a wetherspoons.
