Pork pie warmed up in the microwave for 30 seconds, small tin of petits pois and mint sauce. Trust me, it's delicious!

Murdo - best place to get Scotch pies south of the border is Greggs or Iceland believe it or not!!
I was just about to mention Gala pie. Elongated pork pie with hard boiled egg running through the middle. I was very fond of that but can't seem to find a decent one these days, surrounded in jelly.
I prefer it to a pure pork pie, the egg gives it an extra dimension and a variation in the chewing experience.
.....softer on the gums as well, Shoota. :-)
Unfortunately they are all fattening treats. Maybe when I've dropped a stone or two.
You should put your teeth in when eating Tills.....

Same with snoggin.
I didn't mean my gums.....by gum!
On the subject of pork butchers, does anyone buy saveloys these days? A saveloy dip was a cheap and filling snack.
I have never bought or eaten a saveloy.
You should, they can be eaten successfully without teeth.
Don't forget the pease pudding.
I'll try them in thirty years time then, Shoota.

Will I remember to though?
Brown sauce.
I remember queues outside the pork butchers waiting for the pork pies and the pease pudding to come out of the back. They wouldn't sell you a pie for half an hour or so until the jelly had set.
To the tune of Mozart's concerto for horn in E flat major:

Oh, for a bottle of beer and big pork pie!
Try a Wigan pie sandwich - stick your pie between two slices of Warburton's best cotton wool! They really do it.

Seriously, microwaving pastry does it no good. Heating it up in the oven is worth the wait. You can always buy a hot one, though.

jackdaw,
Our fish and chip shop sells saveloys.
Are those the funny red things? And where is the shop?
So does our local chippy, Old Bather. I've never had one though.
Anyone conversant with Whist Pies or are they more a North West item?

We always had them for buffets at parties as they are small two bite sized, though they are good heated up.
