Just need some advice or recommendations regarding painkillers used for Period Pain... as the months go by I am suffering more every month (I am 43). Just feel totally washed out for 3 days every month. Not just the usual dreaded cramps, but lightheaded, NO energy. I take Ibuprofen every 4 hours but after about 2 hours I am literally waiting to take more. Somebody suggested painkiller with Codeine included? Also my monthly cycle has been getting shorter over 18 months i.e. every 23 days now. Ladies please share any advice as I am dreading every month now and plan my life around those 3-4 days. Thanks x

Piggy, for the times you're at home I'd recommend an electric heat pad. This just for example - you may be able to get similar elsewhere - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ELECTRIC-STOMACH-AND-BACK-HEAT-PAD-WITH-6-HEAT-SETTING-PAIN-STRESS-RELIEF-/221291446766?pt=UK_Health_HealthCare_RL&var=&hash=item3385ff81ee
you can alternate nurofens and paracetamol every couple of hours. I can't actually remember the recommended dosages, but Sqad or someone will be able to tell you.

Laelia - thank you but I also get horrendous hot sweats at that time of the month, I feel like I already have my own in-built radiator. Thanks

Thanks jno
I had codeine pills one month and it did the trick so well, I had no pains the next month. And I suffer a lot, I mean lots, lots with cramps at those times.
Hope you find something that lessens the pain piggy.

Solpadeine Plus? .......Thanks Society will try that next month.
Have you tried taking painkillers specifically for period pain? On sale at your local chemist - they can help, rather than generic painkillers.
^^ oops, sorry - that was from me, not him :-)
Have you tried Feminax? Thing is we are all different (paracetamol for example doesn't work on me for anything). You should consider discussing with a GP, there are prescription painkillers that are more effective and there will be hormonal solutions too, at your age your periods are unlikely to inprove until after the menopause. I do sympathise, I remember in my teens writhing in agony and throwing up every month with period pain (until I got put on the pill).
have you spoken to your GP about it?
I appreciate it m ight not be what you waoul like to do but I was put on the contraceptive pill to counteract very disablling period pain.
I used to get hormonal migraines every month too, so the vile headache and sickness on top of the pains...... roll on menopause for you, piggy!

I have tried all the Period Pain tablets on the shelf - Nurofen Period Relief (still only contain the same as the usual Nurofen just different pink packaging!!) Same as Panadol. Feminax contains the same Nurofen (Lysine) also tried the Feminax blue box with Naproxen. They all only last for about 2 hours....
I see this as a perfectly straightforward post that at least half the population will empathise with Jordy....
Weel, I am not a laydee...BUT..If this has come on over the past 8 months or so and it is clearly disrupting your life, then i would suggest a Gynecological opinion as fibroids or endometriosis needs eliminating.

Also your dose of Ibuprofen....nee eds to be 600mgms up to every 6 hours.
Jordy, it's possible they are memebrs using a different name if the subject could be considered sensitive.
For ibuprofen to work for me I have to take 1500 /200 mg every 5 hours.
