My 18 yr old daughter recently split up with her boyfriend of 3 years amicably, they are still good friends. His mother has been telling lies to basically anyone who will listen about things my daughter has supposed to have said, to turn people against her. My sister in law contacted the womans daughter and told her that she felt it was unfair for her 45 year old mother to be trying to cause trouble for her niece and that it needed to stop. Facebook, intimidating comments etc The mother has now said she is going to a solicitor for allegations of slander against her and her family, she's lied and told mutual acquaintances that my sister in law threatened to batter her & that my family have been prank calling her. Luckily all of our phone bills mobile and landline are itemised so we have proof that no calls have been made but why is this woman stooping so low to tell ridiculous lies like she is? My daughter's ex isn't even speaking to his mother for the trouble she's caused. Where do we stnad with the lies that she's been telling about our daughter? My daughter works full time and is not of the reduced mentality required to indulge in making prank calls, she has better things to do. Help!!!

Going to a solicitor over this will cost you a fortune and very little chance of getting any cash back,No legal aid is available and slander / liable cases are the hardest to prove and the most costly to take to court. Do not even think about it unless you at least £100,000 you can throw away on lawyers fees.
Just ignore it, she will shut up eventually. If you like...

Get all your evidence inc Facebook, print them off Facebook then contact the other person & state, if this does not stop you will take action.

Thank you TWR. I have a copy of the e-mails and I've saved the texts that she's sent to us. Can she take legal action against my daughter based on the lies with no evidence to support them? I'm livid about the whole situation, we live in the same area and it's annoying knowing that this woman is lying through her teeth and theres nothing I can do about it.
I am going through something in my life now Iisapink, an evil piece of sht has cost me my job in a care home where I used to work, she had come out with unfounded allegations, I have a solicitor through my union on the case, & yes I will win this case, if you think you are 100% right take the bitch, I hate people like this or anyone that tries to lie their way & disrupt people's life's. Good Luck, but do not take this lying down.

Agree 100% with Eddie
what Eddie said. Slander/Libel are civil, not criminal matters, hard to prove and agonisingly expensive to deal with. You can complain to Facebook but if I were you I would let it drop.

Thanks everyone for your advice. My family have maintained a dignified silence while it's been going on & you're right I'm going to let it go. I've not lost anything through it, I was more concerned about my daughter's reputation. It's unjust that it's her who threatened solicitors when it's her whose been causing all the trouble. I'll leave it to Karma, this horrible woman deserves every bad thing that happens to her. Thanks again.
