What is the Bach Rescue Remedy

01:00 Mon 16th Apr 2001 |

asks Streetgang:
A.
It's one of the Bach (pronounced 'Batch') Flowers Remedies, which have been designed to treat emotional, rather than physical states.

Q. Who was Bach
A.
Dr Edward Bach created the Remedies in the 1930s. Although a successful Harley Street doctor, he wasn't happy with the way medicine focused on physical symptoms and decided that a new system could be found in nature.

Q. Are the remedies really made from flowers
A.
Yes, and plants. Dr Bach took years to find a flower or plant for the 38 emotional states he wanted to treat.

Q. How do the Remedies work
A.
Dr Bach discovered that when he treated the feelings of his patients with his remedies, their physical symptoms improved. The theory is that they transform negative emotions into positive ones which, in turn, releases the body's potential to heal itself.

Q. Does it work
A.
It seems to work extremely well for some people and not at all for others. There have been no clinical trials but lots of anecdotal evidence. For example, many people swear by Rescue Remedy (a blend of five Flower Remedies for use in a crisis) to help them deal with their fear of flying.

Q. Can anyone take them
A.
Yes, including children and animals.

Q. How do you know which ones to take
A.
You choose, based on how you are feeling. Charts are available wherever the remedies are on sale to help you find the ones you need. Or you can see a Bach Flower Remedy practitioner, or you can read one of the many books available.

Q. How can I find out more
Visit the Bach Flower Remedy website.
