Third time lucky, Abbey. Don't expect more than a pleasant chap in a hopefully nice place. Just be sensible.

What's your question?
Question Author
Do I meet him on Friday or just let meeting someone happen naturally
Third time lucky, Abbey. Don't expect more than a pleasant chap in a hopefully nice place. Just be sensible.
^^^ In the title I see a question mark.
If you’re not comfortable say no, abbey.
You have asked similar question before and were given answers.
Tell some one where you are going.
Meet in a public place
Maybe have a friend give you a call and have a code word in case you need help.
Check where the toilet and back exits are
Have cab fare home
Try it and see what happens

He wants to go cinema and drink
Abbeylee. Does he live in your home town and are you meeting there?
Question Author
Yes
Pointless going to the cinema - two strangers sitting next to each in the dark, unable to chat or even see each other.
Just go for a drink.
Question Author
I thought that for a first date
What is a date? (Apart from 1066?)
Don't leave your drink unattended. Please.
Abbeylee. You say you don't normally feel confident meeting guys you don't know - why then, do you use dating apps?
It's a dodgy game - might go really well, might not. Think it through.

I don't go on them very often but I keep re considering them as I don't know where I will naturally
It was blind dates when I were a lad, two strangers introduced by mutual friends, long before computer dating was a thing.
These days computer dating is very common in all age groups and it's no more dangerous than getting chatting with a stranger you unexpectedly meet in a pub, club or a supermarket.
Scrub the cinema.

Abbey, I had a disastrous date once with a man who barely was so nervous that it was a struggle to get a conversation going. I remember driving home thinking that's 3 hours of my life I'll never see again.

20 months later we married. We have a lovely life together and a beautiful son.

We're in Gdansk at the moment and tomorrow we celebrate our sixth anniversary. I'm glad I gave it a chance.
We met on Plenty of Fish, BTW and I personally know 4 other married couples who met on there.
Abbey take calmck’s advice, just take care, don’t let him take you home, don’t leave your drink unattended. Go for the date somewhere where there are plenty of people, just don’t be alone with him at all. Can you check him out on social media before you meet?
Accept all the safety advice offered.

And accept that dating apps are the same as meeting people anywhere - a bit of a lottery.

It may go well, it may not, but don't let bad experiences in life put you off.

The only way never to put a foot wrong, is never to put a foot out.

Be sensible, be aware, be realistic.

Good luck.
