Some I can't understand...

14a Board attack good for head of subsidiary (3,2) GET ON. Why?

23a Where you'd undoubtedly see a couple of thirsty station-wagons (3,6) THE STATES. Why?

25a One runs away from French art prank (7) ESCAPER. Prank = CAPER, but where does the ES come from?

15d Heard men on board with cannabis in disco (9) NIGHTSPOT. Cannabis = POT (heard men = KNIGHTS? If so, why on board). Why?

Knights on chessboard
Question Author
Aha! Thanks
From French is des - one runs away Es
Get on = board

Set on = attack ..exchange G (good) for S (head of subsidiary)
To board (a bus) = to get on
Attack = set on
Swap G(Ood) for S(ubsidiary)
TH (couple of The) Estates( stations)
25a French tu es = thou art
I should have said that TH was a couple of thirsty)
Question Author
OK thanks, but

14a I don't know why "of subsidiary" is there

25a I thought of that but I am not impressed that "one" = D. Could maybe have said "daughter runs away" or something. I wonder whether there's something else... Ho hum.

Thanks again though

Tu es - Brilliant! Well cracked kettledrum.

Ah - station wagons = ESTATES, and I have a Honda Accoed Tourer! I should have got that
25a an 'escaper' is (some)one who runs away.
14a subsidiary is only there to provide S as its first (head) letter
Question Author
