Three parents have had to leave our office due to their child's school closing due to the snow.
Us "non" parents are now holding the fort until 5.30pm.

Is that fair? What choice do they have I suppose, but its bloomin busy today and our workforce has nearly halved!!

jd, were you not aware the parents have a divine right to spend more time out of the office than anyone else, well except for smokers, maybe?

cheer up, perhaps they will let you go early, 5.29 or thereabouts.
I don't know about fair, but IMO it's more risky to send kids home (where they could be roaming the streets or hanging around the shops) than to keep them in school.
I know what you mean, there's only 2 staff in our place today including me with the schools closed and travel disruption. Can't really be helped though.
There's not much the parents can do unless the child is old enough to go home alone.
As discussed recently, where to apportion 'blame'/inadequacy/ineffectiveness/too re-active, not pro-active enough:

It might not feel fair to you as you've got to makeup the shortfall but there's not a lot the parents can do. If I have to take time off when they shut the school I lose a days pay.

I am not knocking the parents and their responsibility to collect their offspring! Its just one of those things and I felt like a moan!

Deadlines still must be met and its hard to energise the staff who are left as they are now concerned with the commute home etc and half their collegues left at 11.30am.
Have you considered that some of the teachers will have had to leave their workplaces to collect their kids from school? This then makes the teacher to pupil ratio too low and so the school closes, etc.
jd - don't you have a child?

FGS - just got a message from my sons school. They are closing and sending the kids home but, but!! the buses are running as normal. If the buses are running as normal why do they need to close?
Maybe the staff have to get their kids?

ummmm - my fiancee has a 4 year old, not at school until September
So, jd.. you're at work and busy but still find time to come on here and moan about parents collecting their children!! lol

Hippy Hoppy - touche!
Just on a quick break. You will find that I jump on here intermittently. Besides, with the boss gone I am ranking member of staff!!
82 schools in Northants closed. It is pretty bad out there...
jd, if so, you can tell yourself what to do, just a thought...
You're still a parent, jd, even if he's not biologically yours.
