Gin and candles?
Call a sparky
Go to your Consumer Unit and report back Crafters...............
Where was the fizzing noise coming from crafty. ?
Question Author
What's a consumer unit?
Fuse box Crafters................
Go to your fuse box and see if the fuse has blown, if the switch has tripped.
Your fuse box, crafty.
Go to consumer unit, if one of the switches is up when all others are down, flick it back on. You'll probably find you've just got a bulb gone in the living room.

The fizzing noise was the gas escaping.
But switch off your room light before you reset, or you might be closing on a fault in which case it would just trip again
You read my mind Builder lol.
I'd just drink all the wine and wait til morning... You don't need lights to watch telly... Possibly not the more responsible solution though :c)
Question Author
the fuse box has a load of black rectangles and 1 white rectangle which pokes out (is this a good description?)
Yep thats it crafty.
Question Author
Only the white rectangle has a switch on which is pointing upwards
Crafty ............ have any of the black ones got white spots on them?
Question Author
Yes the first one has white spots
Switch off at the big switch on the end and pull the white spotty one out for a look at the fuse
