just got in from work, left the 2 cats out today as it was a sunny warmish day, come home and they were no where in sight and there are fireworks going off all over the place! just been on a walk round and they both came running at me from in the field ove the back. They're shaking and not hapy with me . obviously i am wrong in thinking they can't sell fireworks to kids, cos it's kids setting em off.,

Fireworks don't phase my cat.

If it's kids setting them off then phone the police.
nowt phases my cat- she laughs in the face of danger!

The dog however will be a quivering wreak when/if she hears any.
In a few days it will sound like the middle of a battlefield here but will only go on for a few days. Where I used to live it lasted a month or more.
I'm not for a ban on fireworks, but surely it should be illegal to let them off other than on the designated day? That at least gives us pet owners the option of keeping our pets safe.
What about people that enjoy fireworks? Should they be denied that pleasure because other people have pets?
Dotty. I had two beautiful cats, Ts and Eliot. Opened the back door, early evening, mid October to let the into back garden. Load of noisy fireworks went off and Eliot ran down the side of the house into the road and was killed. So yes, Bloody fireworks.
Does that include the yobs who post them through letterboxes or throw them at people?
Of course not. That's just a silly thing to say!
It's the adults who buy them and give them to youngsters that I blame... none here yet, thank goodness.
Of course not Ummm. But in the middle of October? When we know they are going off we can keep our pets in.
Oh tell me about it. Round here it starts in earnest at diwali and goes on till new year. tescos now have an ad up saying "why don't you have fireworks at your halloween party?" I could tell em why not!
There also seems to be a growing trend of school leaving parties with- you guessed it - blooming fireworks.
its not fun really..fireworks should be for nov 5th..organised displays only...are we getting old??? id like to think not as i love a good firework display..but in the right circumstances..and not unnanounced..like when a firebomb goes off over your rooftop...
Good evening Mrs M i trust you are well, how did stokies tips do.
We're fortunate I suppose. We only ever hear fireworks on bonfire night and New Year's Eve when people have parties at home - but they terrify my big dog, and the farm animals are not too keen either.
Down here fools take their fireworks into the forest carparks, sometimes causing the ponies to stampede....people have no thought.
It must be nice to have animals that are not upset with the noise, but as one who is owned by a couple that hate them....I agree....bluddy things!
Glad you got your two home safe and sound Dotty.

We have Halloween and then a few of the Anglicised neighbours do it all again on 5 Nov.

They've been setting them off around here for a few weeks already. Heard some tonight just after I came back with the dog...she's been shivering ever since. So-yes-I'd love to see their use limited. The local Tesco Metro has had them on display for the past week....oh joy :-((
There are always illegal fireworks in markets and boot sales here.
