The GP would be foolish to give you more than two weeks at a time especially as you have presented with anxiety issues... Add in the sleep pattern problems, the panic attacks and the risk of significant side effects I would expect 2 week supplies for around 3 months then a month at a time for a couple of months before you are put on a repeat system. Use the follow up...

Maybe because of the side effects? Do they do any checks at your appointments? If not, maybe suggest that - as the medication is for anxiety - it is counterproductive to raise your levels of anxiety by not allowing you to get an automatic repeat!
Probably to do with the known side-effects, as below
http://www.dundee.ac....What%20side%20effects

However, again it may be totally to do with cost of treatment for this drug, i.e not for an individual, but as a whole for all patients requiring it.
It's a betablocker tinks. I used to take it for migraine headaches, when nothing else would work. I think they could be quite dangerous in the wrong hands, although I am sure the doctor could prescribe at least a month's supply for you. Seems a very small amount if you need them.

Its only my second pack.....

Happy to go in and chat and have any checks but its a pain in the @rse to hve to call every two weeks to either pick up some, or be told to go in and see them!! What about when im back at work!?

They very well would be dangerous in the wrong hands but i feel competent enough!! ...

Yeah though the thought that you may have none left is freaky deaky LOL xxx

OMG nibble!! Thanks!!!!! Just realised ive been freeeeezing recently and im usually never cold- been moaning to get the heating on just realised its prob because the betas LOL x
Hence, another reason not to give you too many pills, it means the medical team can keep on eye on your condition. Also helps with controlling the side-effects, but not to worry, it's a pain in the @@@, but for the best.. ☺

Awck i know. I said last time i dont mind popping in to check in....its good practise!! But every two weeks i dont believe folk have to go. Ill discuss with the doc when i go.

My dosage seems right i think....but i cant believe its just dawned on me thats why ive been colder lol xx
If this is only your second pack tinks, I expect they are monitoring you to see what sort of effect they have on you. If you go on with the treatment they might give you more.
I didn't mean you were not competent - it's just that some people might not be able to cope with them or they might have a bad effect on you so they won't give out too many. Also you have to make sure they are not where children or teenagers might take them (not unknown).

Oh i know you didnt star!! :0) i didnt take it that way at all!!

Im fine with going in for a "catch up" .....and its good theyre keeping an eye i just hope i dont hve to go through it every two weeks.

Dont plan to be on them for too long hopefully xxx
They didn't work for me as some of the side effects are insomnia, nightmares and vivid dreams - the symptoms that I'd been prescribed them for!
I found that the reassurance and relaxation techniques taught to me during my counselling addressed my anxiety better than the medication, although my anxiety is related to a specific incident, rather than a 'general' anxiousness. The Mental Health Foundation do some good podcasts, although you should check with your G.P. or counsellor first before using them (or that may just have been in my case, because of the type of counselling).
Having said that sometimes there are nights when the herbal tea, swishy music etc don't work and I'm wide awake till the early hours :(
Unfortunately, it is something that takes time to resolve and I hope you get your treatmentsorted out sooner rather than later.

What a lovely post. Thank you! I hope so too and ill have a chat with doc about podcasts xxxx

Thats really helpfull rowan thanks so much....

So tomorrow i should mention the sleeping? Or lack of!! Xx
Yes because it is all part of your anxiety picture... personally I think your GP should send you to a decent counsellor as it has sounded to me for some time that you are trying to do too much for some reason... I wouldn't like to speculate what that reason might be...but find the root cause and deal with it...anything else is elastoplast

I think you are right- sometimes it isnt apparent to me that its all linked ? Then it dawns on me- ill mention it and ill ask how much longer ive to wait for counselling!!!

Just want it all fixed!!! Want to wipe my mind out LOL....youve no idea how much i appreciate your opinion and im fine if you speculate!! You do help me- thank you xxxxx
A couple of things spring to mind... doing too much starting too many little projects etc sounds like either a) trying to gain approval of who? because you need support for your self esteem or b) there is something more serious that you are trying to block out and its bubbling away in your subconscious and causing the random anxiety stuff... Keeping busy is deferring the day you open that dark cupboard and sort the issue

Or you just have really unhealthy coping mechanisms and need to learn new ones
my mother reacted really badly to betablockers dangerously low blood pressure.i dont rate them at all i was prescribed them a few years ago and just 10mg gave me feelings of exhaustion.too add be very careful when exercising on them.
Question Author
Ronnie i never gave exercising a 2nd thought!? Thank you for the heads up.!!

Hmmm. Its good to get another point of view!!! I like to learn but i am trying yo keep busy, distract myself yes....i said on older threads im sure i have a few things to iron out with the counsellor from years ago which play on my mind and i would bet my boots that they are a contributing factor to this!!!

I do try to fill my day ....and i hate when people think i mabye laze about all day cos im off temporarily xx
one more thing i have too collect my prescription once a week pain in the ass.mirtazapine which after researching on the internet it is nearly impossible to od on said drug.

funny thing is the same gp gave me two months supply of a drug for a physical problem i have which in the label in the box advised that people with reduced liver functions and the elderly should be given half the starting dose.
Question Author
Hmmmm must be a rhyme or reason....i suppose its good to pop in for a catch up with the doc if im taking them for anxiety. Makes me feel looked after and can tell them of any changes ...xx
