fter suffering chronic pain for almost a year, and having taken several months out of work because of it, I am now also told I am depressed (hardly surprisingly really!!) More importantly, lack of sleep equals zero energy, total lack of concentration and the feeling that I a becoming a recluse!! It's not how I want to be but the pain means it's easier to make now effort, snooze when I can and not see anyone if I can help it. Feels like an ever decreasing circle .............. can anyone relate to this?

March- I go to a pain management clinic, when you first go they do a test type thing to see if a group meeting would help you and if so you meet regular and make friends with people in the same boat as you. I did'nt want to go as I'm a very private person. I just ask my G.P to arrange an appointment every few year when I know I need stronger pills. They help you in alot of...

Should also have mentioned the level of pills I am taking makes me feel like I am not part of my body ............ make sense to anyone?
Is you choice of username indicative of the way you feel?
Question Author
Possibly Tilly yes, though subconsciously! Thinking about i, I probably do feel a little off my rocker atm!!
March- Maybe your medication needs looking at. Ask your G.P to refer you to a pain management clinic. Theres a few on this site that will be able to chat to you.. How old are you?.
You should make an appointment with your GP and have a review of your medication and tell him/her your concerns. I hope you get the help you need and that you start to feel better soon. cupid04.

Am late thirties - seeing GP early next week. Will go through it with him but he usually just says the current drugs are best combination for my pain ..... is there anyone else out there who feels similarly?
Yep, big time. I see it as needs must though and am lucky to have an amazing best friend who I meet for coffee if I'm not too knackered, in pain etc... to get out for a coffee at the weekend.

I'm lucky in not having to be off work (yet) and currently awaiting my OH report to hopefully make things easier to keep working and I at least see people there and I have quite a strict routine and tend to stay within my little "control zone" when needed. My friends are worrying I'm becoming a bit of a recluse though I don't feel up to socialising a lot of the time.

I find a similar thing about the drugs and it is frustrating though if you get a good GP/specialist then there can be new ideas. I was changed to mirtazapine recently which has helped me a lot with better sleep.

Have you ever been referred to a pain clinic or occupational therapist?

Eve (going for a snooze before watching the rugby on sick sofa having had to turn down a invite to watch it in the pub with my mates).

Oh Eve.!! In a way (and I don't mean this unkindly at all!!) I am pleased to hear from you and pleased to hear it's now just me and am I am not going totally crackers!! Although I hope you get some relief soon in some way. I have to plan going out by making sure it fits the medication pattern (as I try not to drive when I am drowsy, obviously) and you are lucky to have a friend who you meet for coffee and a change of 4 walls ..... I get the feeling my friends have stopped asking me to do things as I have cancelled so often!! I haven't been referred to pain management - I have joined a couple of on line forums and haven't really found it much help to be honest ................ do you attend pain management? x

I did'nt want to go as I'm a very private person. I just ask my G.P to arrange an appointment every few year when I know I need stronger pills. They help you in alot of other ways if you need it. So see your G.P and TELL him don't ask ha ha as you sound like you need help. Keep us posted..

Arwyn ..... did your GP refer to you to a pain clinic? Is it possible to self -refer? Can I ask how it helps you specifically please?
Yes your G.P has to refer you. It helps me a lot as the pain clinic can give you much higher doses, A G.P can only perscibe what the book says or in my G.P's words "The amount of drugs you take arwyn is classed as an over dose".
Also they lent me a Tens machine for a month, they showed me how to use it and when it helped I bought one through them and saved the VAT.
They also can give you a MRI scan and see if an operation might help you.
I have Arthritis in loads of parts of my spine, it started in my teens and I have now just turned 50.
The list goes on on how they help you. Honest March-hare my first appointment lasted 90mins and He was shocked at how little care I'd been giving..
Oh and as for your original question "yes I can so relate to every word you said" .. I once went to my G.P crying with pain, He was adamant I was depressed, I insisted I was'nt but I came away with a very strong dose of anti-depressants which for some reason I took for years. You need to get the balance between controling the pain and being a zombie. Feel free to ask me anything and update how you get on at your Doctors, Good luck xx

Thank you Arwyn ...... I have had the MRi but surgery is a very long way off at the moment ................. My GP has given me a mild anti-dep, and I am taking them - and I have turned up at my GPs office on several occasions and ended up in tears ............. I shall ask him to refer me. He keeps telling me I am taking everything I can to help with the pain already though ...............? It's good to talk to someone who understands - thank you.
Can relate to some of it. Mainly the second sentence.
March thats where they differ, they dont EVER say things like "your taking all that you can" they try alsorts not just drugs.
What causes your pain? if you dont want to Say its ok.

Chronic pain an unpleasant sense of discomfort that persists or progresses over a long period of time. In contrast to acute pain that arises suddenly in response to a specific injury and is usually treatable, chronic pain persists over time and is often resistant to medical treatments. So, people who are suffering from such type of pain search for different treatments which can help them to get out of the pain easily. And cannabis is one of the most popular treatment which not heals your pain but you will also not get addicted to it. For more information you can visit the link given below:
