Well done haras, very fast work :)
Hi Seekeerz - hope all is well with you !
Question Author
All good thanks, haras - and with you, and Shady, I hope.
Objection, your honour.

Brick is not another word for bread. Brick typically refers to a rectangular block made of clay or concrete used in construction, while bread refers to a food made from flour, water, and yeast or other leavening agents.

The two words have different meanings and are unrelated.

Albeit a while ago, having sampled 'Adobe Bread' during a visit to Arizona (a particular staple of the Pueblo people), then a propos of the original question, kindly accept 'adobe' as a direct challenge to BA being awarded to haras2 ;-)

Hi ZebuSanctuary
Thanks for that very interesting information.
I never have been and never will be interested in a BA and I am very happy to donate it to you :-)
(Think we should consult Seekeerz - she is the fount of all wisdom in these matters ! )
Zebu, the clue posted by Seekeerz was using the exact wording as set by Kate Mepham.
The answer to the clue in Saturday's Giant General Knowledge Crossword was 'brick', as confirmed by the cross checking letters.
As per Chambers Dictionary, one of the definitions is 'something in the shape of a brick • a brick of ice cream.'
haras2;
You have acted with such propriety and your modesty is quite prepossessing. BA is rightfully retained. I withdraw my challenge :-)

Thank you for the explanation :-)
Look what I have found:
Scottish National Dictionary (1700–)
This entry has not been updated but may contain minor corrections and revisions. BRICK, n. 1. A loaf of bread; “applied to bread of different sizes; as, a penny brick, a three-penny brick, a quarter brick, i.e. a quartern loaf”

elliemay1;

Firstly, well researched.

Finally, since the SND(1700-) does not specify unleavened bread, I believe you're taking the rise ;-)
