No - nit the song. A real, live four legged furry fiend.Spotted it tucking into Smoke's supper the other night. Any ideas how I get rid of it. I can't use poison because of the mog.

To be fair to Smoke he has tried but the damn thing doesn't come out when he's around.

Rat trap.
Ditto. Local council will advise
Get a rat trap and bait it with the toffee part of a Twix, you will have to take thevtwix apart first etc.

The rat will chew and tug on the toffee/caramel and SNAP... No more rat!
Will cats eat rat poison?

Thank you. I'll give it a go. I've seen type ones. What's the best thing to use as bait? Problem is I'm not sure where it's coming from. I blocked one hole I from.
I think I'm going to have to speak to Smoke about dereliction of duty.....

Sorry, Kat2206, I posted before I saw your answer. I'll give a Twix a try.
You've got a cat AND a rat? Don't feed the cat for a couple of days and it will sort out the problem.
Poison. Put it behind the fridge or somewhere at of cats reach. It's very hard to poison a cat.

^^Sorry. Brinjal - auto correct running amok...
Get a Plummers Jack Russell around, bred to catch pests (thank you tony).
I knew that info would come in handy sometime lol.
The cat won't touch the poison, which is impregnated grain, but if he then eats the rat it won't do the cat any good. Poisoned rats go off somewhere warm to hide and die a long protracted death - nasty. Often they sneak off behind warm pipes where you can't get to them and there is no smell as bad as a decomposing rat.

A trap is the best option - but they are clever buggers!!
OMG I thought a swear word would be bleeped out!!!
This was me last year!

I had a rat in my kitchen too, despite having a jack russell. I called the council out and they put trays of rat poison in the back of my fridge, well behind it, as that's where the bugger had been chewing the insulation to make its bedding with.

It took several weeks of him coming out, redoing the poison, but it disappeared eventually- dunno where, don't care, but we never found it.
one of my cats caught a rat a few weeks ago and left it behind two bicycles in my spre room downstairs. i kept saying to mr kicker that something was rotting and i nearly barfed when i found it.....serious derelection of duty by my 3 moggies. they could at least of taken it outside to munch - someone had obviously had a go......and i do kiss my moggies on occasion and they lick me!!!!! yeuch!!!! x
Smoke needs his/her P45.
Messalina, you appear to have awarded yourself the best answer...
Sorry, but a pest controller on the radio recently said that if you see a rat, you will actually have several!
I thought you couldn't do that?
