It is 2am so I am unable to write a coherent chunk of text.

The following link explains what changes are needed to make motorists obligated to report hitting a cat on the road.

If this is something that you think is a good idea this petition is up and running

I know that some local authorities scan dead cats to see if there is a microchip which will indicate the name and address of the cat and its staff - but many don't. Maybe that is something else that could be considered.

I tried getting my two to play fetch - but they just looked at me as if I was nuts.

hc - realistically I can't see the new law being implemented, but to have a pet go missing presumed dead is a horrible experience.

Doc, you often talk as if you are in your twilight years. For goodness sake you are only mid 60's. Are you expecting to die young. If anything happens to my dog and my cat I would happily adopt others, especially the older ones who desperately need homes.

I will sign your petition Wolf. To me a cat and a dog should be treated equally. I have lost three to the roads in my time and the fact that people treat them like wild rabbits is appalling. My cats and dogs are part of our family.

It amazes me that people who don't like cats have to make silly or throw away comments on such threads as yours, or other threads in the pets section.
when my darling Mousey dies, I will not have anymore cats much as I love them, they are so tying.
So flip flop you have no cares whatsoever if you run over somebody's beloved pet and kill it. Regardless of your feelings about cats, you obviously don't care about humans either. Incredible!
i am a little like flip flop only i have no time for gardeners who have no time for cats

when the garden is full of mice and rats they will say wonder why the cats don't clear them off
So are husbands Neti!! Actually my cat isn't that much of a tie.
Mousey is, she cannot go to the one cattery on the island as she howls all night and the neighbours complain, so someone always has to be here, which means if hija is away, we cannot go anywhere.
Not all cats are reprobates like Mousey ;o)

I understand that people dislike cats - but to knock over a cat and do nothing about it) and feel no guilt or concern about the pain and suffering caused to both cat and its human family is a not a sign of a civilised and caring individual.

If a person can be that callous to another species of animal how do they treat their fellow humans?
I agree with you Wolf.
wolf they will never admit it but most will treat some humans like a piece of
excrement , just google hit and run

It doesn't surprise me that the same people that would hit a cat and didn't care would do the same to humans. Selfish, horrible people who I would label 'vermin' happily!!
We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals.

have signed the petition. i lost a catthis way, whoever killed him did move him to the side of the road, i still feel guilty about that he had got into the habit of tryign to follow me to work :-(
Dr Filth - What a lovely quote. Thanks for posting. x
mccfluff many years back i was at the bus stop at just before 5am, stood having a fag hoping the bus would not be late and i got the feeling someone was watching me
something was not right had a look around nothing, just happened to look at my feet and their was dennis looking up at his human friend
had to pick him up walk back home and shove him in the house

same thing happened the next morning

before leaving home had to check dennis was locked in the house
Brian comes to the park with us :-)
Wonder whether Dennis would have actually got on the bus with you?

We have had a couple of cats who have come on our dog walks with us. Forunately, this is only over the fields behind us but they used to come the whole distance. We would have to wait for one of them because she would often climb a tree or two. She then would be carried home (spoiled cat)
awww love dennis. murph is allowed out on the canal but not on the road
That's an interesting, and breathtakingly stupid & absurd, leap of logic Lofty Lottie.

How have you managed to arrive at such an asinine theory?

The mind boggles.
Lofty he use to follow my mother to the ice cream van and wait in the queue, all the neighbours and kids got to know dennis

on day in the butchers which is on a busy road the butcher said is that your cat,
mum looked at him and said where, he pointed to the window and after a few seconds dennis would peek over the bottom of the window frame to see her
