What type of advert - and how old?

If it's a British TV ad, this might help:
http://www.tellyads.com/
but it obviously won't be of much use if (say) you're seeking a Victorian newspaper ad for corsets ;-)

The "Song Of The Salesman" website is the most comprehensive site on the Net for Advert identification here:

thanks folks. not sure if I am asking the right questions but it was the old government ads for council tax, poll tax , pay up etc.. and register for voting that I was looking for. tonyav looks to have given me a useful site but as yet I haven't been able to play the ads to see if they are the ones I want. Will keep trying that site when I get more time.
