I would be interested to know why you are carrying out a poll on the above,as I am one of the VERY FEW that use it?Will you next have a poll on whether or not to give the answers to crossword puzzles,in which the winner could win £1-2,000?,Or maybe even vote on whether or not ABers should be allowed to download recipes from the site? The list is endless.

I have just spoken to the Daily Mail & they have assured me that the T & C's are NOT violated by the asking for, or the provision of, a number.

As long as ONE paper is purchased, that ONE number can be used by anybody, with the purchaser's permission.

Duncer - ...but why should we provide numbers to people who don't buy the paper, or seem not to?

There's...

^ " if you can't do it yourself and use someone else's brain power it's cheating. I do crosswords and either I can do them or I can't- wouldn't dream of asking anyone else."

I occasionally ask for a crossword answer- it's because I want to learn/understand the wordplay. I never submit my entries so I'm not after a prize.

Couldn't you extend that argument though to most sections, though NOX. For example for legal advice if you don't know the answer why not as a solicitor>
NOX - that is a complete load of rubbish. So using your theory it is cheating to ask or seek help with a competition question? On that basis there is no need for Google or any search facilities to secure the answer to a puzzle.

///To be honest the whole quizzes an puzzles section ticks me off///
Really!

///if you can't do it yourself and use someone else's brain power///
You didn't mind using other people's knowledge when you had your Google/DNA problem at the beginning of the month.

NOX - that is a load of rubbish too.

There's no obligation here! As with all threads, these requests do not have to be opened & if AB'ers don't wish to proffer their unused numbers, they don't have to but they should not be censuring those of us that don't give a flying fig & are happy for the numbers to be used.

What really ticks me off is the fact that people are quite obviously hovering in the background, waiting for numbers to be posted & grabbing them. Invariably that means the OP will post again, incurring ire, wrath & general rattiness.

It's MY number, in MY paper, bought with MY money & I'll do with it as I please.
Don't give a flying fig, LiK? So you 'phone the Daily Mail!

Ah well.
LOL, not something I would admit to lie-in-king, even if I did read OR call the DM

It is stated in their T&C's about 'the sharing of' etc etc
Oh dear...

I don't give a flying fig about who uses my number, sir.prize & I think you know that's what I meant.
Quite.

And my post was directed at those who trawl for numbers, not those who buy a paper and use it as they see fit, but I suspect you knew that.
Surely contacting the publication to clarify the situation is a sensible move - given that earlier the word 'Fraud' was bandied around.
it seems we have a few here who can't decide which way to vote on this issue. If anyone doesn't want their vote can i have it?
Depends on why you want it and how you'll vote.
My last post on this -

I buy the Mail On Sunday for the puzzles.

I believe that Para 2:3 in the T & C's refers to the content of the Daily Mail site, not the numbers given out with the papers.

I phoned to get a definitive answer & have said what that is.
I actually buy the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday at the weekends. In fact, I have the paper delivered on Sundays, But in two of the last three weeks my magazine section has not included a card with the Reward Club numbers on it.

The first time was in the Saturday edition a fortnight ago, and I failed to check the card was included in the magazine section before leaving the shop. The second time was on Sunday, and although the Sunday magazine section was completely sealed in a cellophane wrapper, I was surprised to find the Reward Club's card was even missing from this enclosed wrapping!

Now, there's a phone number you can ring to get a set of Reward numbers. This is done by answering a couple of questions that can be answered by looking through the magazine, but you can only do this twice in eight weeks.

So it is a problem - I think there are some ABers who don't buy the papers and rely on some kind hearted reader who will provide a set of numbers. Then there are people like me who, although they have bought the paper find that the Reward card is missing.

Perhaps, before giving out a number, it might be worth a look at the person's history to see if their request is a weekly thing!

Although I accept it is entirely up to each individual whether they will give out the number or not.
sir Prize etc- I don't stand to fiinancially profit from asking about general topics whereas the Q&P brigade often submit their completed Q&Ps standing a chance of winning something. I don't even care about that, do whatever you like there's plenty of room here, but it IS hypocritical to bitch about someone else asking for a number- if you don't personally want to give them one then don't but it doesn't stop other people not minding.
Perhaps this thread has run its course now- should we just wait for the results of the poll and the Ed's decision?
NOX - I understand your point but don't agree.

factor - yes, the Ed will decide - it's a democratic vote.
The thing is with the Daily Mail numbers is that they can only be used once and posting on here would not be very reliable as any one could use it.
How would anyone know that the numbers real anyway?
Regarding fraud I don't think the Mail would be interested in this as it is automatically limited to one use.

The Mail have a very good customer service so if the number is missing you can contact them and they will give you a number to enter.
That's quite interesting L-i-K - so they said it wouldn't be a problem at all?

Possibly makes the poll redundant that!
I've just had a look at the T's & C's,
They state that Mail Points are not transferable in any way.
They don't specify 'Reward Numbers'
///They state that Mail Points are not transferable in any way.///

To get Mail Points one has to buy the paper to collect Reward Numbers.

In principle same T&C's would apply.
Lie-in-King pointing out Para 2:3 is irrelevant. The pertinent section is 11:11

11. Terms and Conditions of the Mail Rewards Club

11. Earning Mail Points.

11.1. A User must purchase a copy of the Publication to be eligible to register a Unique Number
