Whats wrong with my 1997 Vectra

I have a 1.6 16 V Vectra LS (1997) and when i get to around 2700 revs it starts jerking and a few pops and cracks but it stops at 3200 revs can anyone tell me what this is please. Thanks

The Air Conditioning

Whenever I put my Air Con on, it smells funny! It smells like curry powder or something like that. Do I need to change filters or whatnot? Mine's a Corsa by the way, if that helps. Cheers dudes.
