Pixie....I worked in a psychiatric hospital and only had 5 days induction.
That was working with people with brain injuries to murderers.
How long ago, ummmm? It changes every year.
Ish....about 2004/5

I'll ask my cousins. They work in my nans care home. They are only 17 and 18 so not long started.
Question Author
Your nan is very lucky to have relatives to keep an eye on her.
A long time ago. I didn't need a police check when I started. They were only needed to work with children.
They won't be allowed to look after he directly. Conflict of interests...
......her
She is Jenny. It's a lovely care home. Family members are welcome to dine with their loved ones FOC and it's like a restaurant.

Pixie...I had the police check.
Question Author
Ummmm - I am a bit confused - you have said earlier that you couldn't do that job - yet you cared for people 2004-5
Question Author
what is FOC
I started in 1995.
Pixie.....they are doing hospitality.
FOC - free of charge.

Jenny...I didn't look after people that needed physical care. It was a psychiatric hospital. Majority were able bodied.
They'll be doing loads, ummmm. Moving and handling, fire safety, food hygiene, health and safety, first aid etc......, NVQ (at least Level 2). The courses are continuous and often repeated yearly.
Question Author
Oh ok but you know I do think you would have coped with their ablutions.

When my dad died in Marie Curie hospice - (was only there for 1 week) - he was semi conscious and kept asking for the bottle - I run out to see if I could get a nurse but they were all busy at that time so I (to my utmost belief) done it. If faced with it you could do it for your loved ones probably.
Question Author
^^^ disbelief
Pixie...we covered that in 5 days. Honest.

Jenny...In that situation, yes, I'd do it. There is a good chance I'd be sick though.

My stomach is very weak.
My wife and daughter both work in care homes, the boss lady since the Arthritis stopped her doing so much haordressing and they tell some stories.

The first one in Stonehaven my daughter didn't last long, one of the female hooligans who mercilessly bullied her in school worked there with a nice wee clique of friends was still a bully only this time it was the patients and Bex of course. When she saw it happen she reported it twice so said bully was suspended. However because she did what she thought was right she was bullied out of her job within a month...criminal! Funniliy enough the care commission got an anonymous letter about what was happening and some very significant changes have been made since.

Now Carolyn does a lot of work with the care commission..... irony!
