Its not Art Deco its Art Nouveau late 19th early 20th century. It contains a budded cross and could be a brooch given at the confirmation of a young girl into the Catholic faith as a budded cross can represent a journey of growth in faith, flowers growing but not yet in bloom. This is what I would say it was.
I wish barney would tell us what it is :)
I've run the image through Google Image search at all sorts of sizes and no direct hit but I too favour the 'Ave Maria'/'Communion' suggestions.

yes I don't know what it is, but suggestions strongly point to it being a confirmation brooch MA possibly meaning Mary of Assumption. Please respond if anyone can give more info, Thank You!!!
