Sync to your computer and let the computer download and add it for you. The way the upgrade work is that it downloads and installs BEFORE it deletes the old software, hence it need the storage space, you'll automatically get 8.0.2 which was released the other day
Delete some apps / photographs / music.
And iOS 8.1 is due Oct 20th!
Don't upgrade.

Keep refusing the requests.

IoS 8.0 is a bag of nails (as are most new releases of operating systems - apple or microsoft or whoever).

Let other people find the bugs, wait for the improved verison (probably about 8.1.x) and then upgrade via your computer as Slappy says.

Back up everything first too.
I have an ipad2 16gb and when the iOS 8 upgrade came along it told me I did not have enough space. My music (cd's & downloads) takes up most of the memory. So I subscribed to iTunes Match @ £22 per year and now my music in is the cloud. But I still have 5gb of free storage on icloud. I also have an iPod so therefore this now has more memory as the music is stored elsewhere. Magic how it does it. If you are going to upgrade to ios8 make sure all your apps are up to date prior to upgrading. There has also been another update since which I have also downloaded and I have had no problems.
