could you live without a tv? (or do you/have you lived without a tv?)
I lived tv free for a few years and have only had my recent set for a couple of years (had it given me, I wouldnt have bought one) but am seriously thinking of putting it in the skip. Theres only a handful of progs that I view and I dont sweat if I miss them, for the most part it seems like theres nothing but reality tv or repeats to choose from.
In the past whenever I mentioned that I didnt own a tv most people were incredulous....what did I do in the evening, how did I keep up with whats going on, didnt I miss certain 'entertainment', etc.
Would you miss your television?

Thanks Karen, expecting a few replies about watching tv without a license from the holier than thou brigade but I think the tv's going soon anyway.
I've had the licence people knock the door (hadn't changed my address), the lady was actually really nice.
And anyway, if TV licensing knock on your door, you DO NOT have to let them in. Tell them to go away and get a warrant. This will take time as they have to apply to a court to obtain one giving you plenty of time to ahem, tidy up.
They probably won't apply for a warrant as it's a hassle, they rely on their database of unlicensed addresses and door-step presence.

lol. as good as...
Easily, oh has been away from last wednesday till today and the TV has been on just for a few football matches the whole time. Neither me or our 16 year old son watch TV at all.
We've Watched a one off drama on BBC this evening called Common. Its worth having the TV for.

OH enjoys sport, but we could live without it if we had to. Thankfully we don't.
>>>Same Q as scrivens, Buenchico, do you miss it? How do you fill your spare time?

If I missed it I'd simply buy a bigger telly and watch more than I already do!

I spend much of the day listening to the radio (especially the British Comedy Channel on Rok Radio http://rokradio.com as well as Radio 4 Extra, Radio 4, Radio 2, Radio 3 (for their jazz & world music coverage) and 6 Music, while answering a few questions (over 40,000 so far) here on AB, looking after 5 cats and trying to finish writing a children's novel. Who needs the telly?!

They are trained to be, many years ago I also had a 'nice' lady come knockin. As it happens I was awaiting for sentence in crown court so wasnt too bothered about the fact that my tv licencse was due. While in prison (after sentencing) I recieved some letter about the fact that I hadnt renewed my tv lisense. Cant remember the exact contents of the letter but by God they pursued me to prison. All because of a 'nice' lady knockin on my door.
I know a couple of people that dont have a tel;evision and manage perfectly well without one. Im sure i wouldnt miss my television set either. Id find something more interesting to do instead, like reading.
I almost never watch any tv nowadays. Could easily stop altogether.
Nailit, just because you had a nasty 'nice' lady persue you doesn't mean they are all the same. The woman who knocked our door was perfectly nice and just doing a job (seems like a pretty crappy job to me). If you don't watch TV and don't need a licence I don't see the problem. The woman who came here just looked some stuff up on some electronic gizmo and sorted everything out, can't see the problem.
There are certain programmes I would miss e.g Happy Valley and Last Tango in Halifax which make the licence worthwhile. I do tend to read a lot though.............

Last weekend we had family staying, and after dinner one night we sat and chatted for 4 hours without the telly on, didn't even miss it, so nice to have things as they once were.
