I am just booked a three night break away, the problem is all the catteries are booked up and I don't have anyone to take care of my cat. My dilemma is do I leave him at home and leave a big bag of dry food out, would he be OK?

3 nights 3 litter trays 3 bowls of fresh food 3 bowls of dried food 3 bowls of fresh water The cat will be ok but don't expect purrs when you come back.

I've just read wharton's reply - amazing. Most of the ABers know which of us are cat people - I see no kneejerk replies, just sensible responses as to what we cat-owners would do.
I'm not a cat owner, but like I said in a previous post I wouldn't leave any pet alone for three days and nights. They rely on us too much.
''do I leave him at home and leave a big bag of dry food out''

OH does this for me when she goes away...
I left mine two nights...as I said he was perfectly ok...I also left radio on for noise , summer so didn't need heat or light....
Now snags...I dare not leave him alone...he simply would not survive for sure !! Lol...
ring your vet for 'cat sitters', most vet nurses would be glad of extra income.
Jayne - you will never get a group of people agreeing on a matter like this.

It is a long time to leave your cat on its own, my two would fight and get bored. A bored can can be a very destructive animal.

But the cat will in all probability be fine - but will you be able to enjoy your break without worrying about him?

Like the others my little boy cat would eat all the food in two seconds (including his sister's food) and then spend the next couple of days starving.

Have a nice break.
Wolf what a very sensible post, YOU should get best answer.

Is a bored can can like a slow waltz?
Prudie - thank you. My two have tied themselves to the radiator and are refusing to move.

Wharton - if a cat can then my cats can (whatever that means) :-)
wolf63 - lol :-)
You can hire people to come and look after your cats,i'd hate to come home to lots of poo,and i'd be worried sick(haven't been on holiday for 20 years!)
