I am just booked a three night break away, the problem is all the catteries are booked up and I don't have anyone to take care of my cat. My dilemma is do I leave him at home and leave a big bag of dry food out, would he be OK?

3 nights 3 litter trays 3 bowls of fresh food 3 bowls of dried food 3 bowls of fresh water The cat will be ok but don't expect purrs when you come back.

If I am out for a night and back the following morning I feed my mogs a little extra but if I am away for 2 nights or more I have a cat sitter come in each day they feed and water them - sort the kitty tray out and play with them.

I also leave the radio on.

The reason Wharton has been given best answer is because his answer meets the OP's viewpoint!

LOL.......exactly.....like 90% of "Best Answers,"
It's a cat alone too, it doesn't even have another cat for company !
An indoor cat as well.

If it were an outside cat I wouldn't be as concerned because at least they go off on their adventures.

Although I still wouldn't consider leaving a cat alone for 3 nights, or the best part of 4 days.
If you read Jayne's post and her subsequent replies again, you will see that she is clearly concerned about her cat. Her question "would he be ok?" was answered in the affirmative, provided he had plenty of food, water and litter trays.
daffy654 - The 'hospital' reference wasn't directed at you, although reading your posts again I can see why you may have thought so. My apologies if you were offended.
Sqad - I concur with your view on 'Best Answer', but, to use a medical term,
I think you've got this arse about elbow. It's not the recipient who awards them.
\\\\"would he be ok?" \\\

Well clearly it depends upon what you mean by "OK" but it would appear that our definitions would differ.

Would he still be alive after 3 days.............yes.
Would he be stressed..............yes.

Does that help?

I am aware of that.....where in my posts have i indicated otherwise?

Your "90%" figure is clearly awry. The vast majority of best answers are awarded in Q&P and Crosswords where accuracy and not opinion is sought.

As to needing help about the cat question, no. If you read my post again you'll see I suggested to Jayne that the cat would be unhappy.

What I do know is that Jayne will be stressed when she reads some of the knee-jerk replies from people who clearly know nothing about cats.

Yeah! right.
I've left my cat overnight (not the dog- she goes to daughter's), and felt horribly guilty, even though it looked like she hasn't missed me in the slightest. Apart from anything else guilt alone would stop me being away for a 3 whole nights from her.
Sqad

////Yeah! right////

I'm wounded, aye right!

Actually thinking about it- re the best answer...

3 bowls of fresh food? Seriously? A cat knows it's to eat one bowl per day? Mine would scoff the lot within half an hour of me leaving the house!
I would say most that have answered know more about cats than Jayne does.
Spot on, Boo.
My cat got more stressed staying in cattery, wouldn't eat ...I left him for weekend a few times with fresh and dry food plentiful supply of water ...with cat flap....he was perfectly ok...neither did I get the sulks and cold shoulder as I did when he was left in cattery !
'knee jerk' replies Wharton - so that's how you describe comments from people who are concerned about pets and who, by the way, are in the majority on here !!!
I wouldn't leave 3 bowls of wet food out either. By the end of the 1st day alone they won't be 'fresh' and certainly wouldn't be touched by a cat.
Strangely enough, our cats drink a lot of stale water - from buckets and lids in the garden, anywhere they can find it. They don't like it fresh from the tap.

However - 3 days? - no. Overnight, yes, but no longer. I would have sorted out the arrangements for the cats before I booked my holiday.

I see Jayne's not responded - Jayne - no neighbours who can look in on your cat? poor thing will be lonely and worried that you're not coming back....
