Among my top favorite birds that come into my garden are jays, such beautiful birds!
When I look out of the window in the morning, I nearly always see the pair of jays flying to and fro, waiting for me to come out and put their daily handful of monkey nuts, on the bird table.
In years of poor acorn yields, like last year, monkey nuts, I think are a good supplemental alternative to keep up the population.
They move in fast, to get in ahead of the magpies, some they bury for later and some they eat, but what surprised me this morning was, one jay seemed to swallow a whole nut (double nut in the shell) before picking up another and flying off.
It just made me wonder, what kind of capacity are they capable of holding in their crop ?

Have an occasional jay in the garden. Think they probably live in the golf course nearby. Beautiful to see, but apparently quite deadly when small birds around.
Yes they are maggie, beautiful looking bird but it's still a crow.
