I don't like dumplings, sausage and mash does it for me every time.
My mum used to make lamb stew with suet dumplings and pearl barley. Scrumptious! Does anyone still use pearl barley?
I do sparingly in a beef broth.

Mr A doesn't like pearl barley, (he's a wimp)
eek he's back, I'm off!! lolxx
Barley makes a great alternative to rice and makes a killer risotto
I do a Highland casserole containing lots of root veg, beef and barley.
My favourite cold-weather comfort is beef goulash with creamy mashed potato and lots of green veg.
Neck of lamb stew with the bones in. Potatoes, carrots, green beans and this with lovely fluffy rice. alternatively Ox tail stew with above but with dumplings not rice.
Realise it's a little late but, oxtail stew does it for me!
