I dont think I've spontaneously recommended a book before, so here goes.

Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino is magical and brilliant, and I'm SO hooked on it. Jeanette winterson said it was the book she'd want if she was alone on a desert island.

It's hard to explain without it sounding a bit bland, but here goes.

In 1200 and something, Marco Polo apparently met Kublai Khan. So in this book, Marco Polo is having a conversation with Kublai Khan. He is describing the wondrous cities that he has visited. But, as the book goes on, it starts to seem as though Marco Polo is not actually describing lots of different cities, but something rather different.

That's as much as I can tell you. You'll just have to get the book. And yes, I'm a bit biased because I really like Calvino's books, but this one is really good.

So, recommend one back to me ... I need a few new books to read.

I'll look out for Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino, see if it's as good as joggerjayne says! A book I read recently and found fascinating was 'Lives of Others' by Elsie Ellis. A bit of history, a bit of feminism, a bit of criminal activity, and some well-drawn characters. You might enjoy it too. It's an e-book.

Pasta ... you're welcome x

Okay, so Lives Of Others is on my list too, now.

I've read One Day.
did you like it?

Did I enjoy One Day?

Err ...

I'm reluctant to say that I didn't enjoy it, because it was a good book, but I found it a bit hard going.
I have recently read Jojo Moyes 'Me Before You' and also her 'Ship Of Brides' both of these worth a read. 'Me Before You' was a bit of an emotional rollercoaster read.
Em10, agree about One Day. I loved the book so thought I'd compare the film. Watching the film somehow managed to ruin the book for me.

I read The Hypnotist by Lars Kepplar recently. It was so good I read it in three days (which is incredible for me). Would recommend to anyone.
