What a weird (and pretentious) list.

I consider myself well and widely read, but barely scratch the surface of this lot.

I've read and can recommend three (Garp, The Little Prince and Tipping Point)

Was forced to read one (Crime & Punishment) for A level - and enjoyed it more than I expected.

Started and abandoned one (White Teeth) - jesus it does go on ... and on

But most of the rest seem to fit into the "books to pretend to be reading on public transport to impress people" category.

Anyone read any/many of them?

Tried Crime and Punishment, but did read The Idiot. Read some Hesse, including Siddartha. This was when I was a pretentious 20-something.
;-)
Read Anna Karenina, Crime & Punishment, Siddartha (then I like Hesse), and the Power Broker (not that good IMO). That's it.
Wow that list is a barrel of laughs!! I read at least one book a week, I've heard of several of those and read none. Hey ho!
I've read Tipping Point and Persepolis. I've read a book by Joan Didion but I'm not sure if it's the one on the list.

I don't know why everyone is meant to read all those books before they're 30. Everyone's got too much to do with school, exams, uni, jobs, trying to find somewhere decent to live etc. to try to plough through all those.
The chances of me reading them before I'm 70 are slim, Dave..and before I was 30 there was no chance.....

I rarely read a book I "should" read......unless a friend has really enjoyed it and suggests I have a look......I just read books by authors I love.....and books that catch my eye....

We used to tell the children at school......read the first two pages and see if it grips or interests you......if it's a chore....put it back on the shelf and find a great book!....x
For half way through one of the books on the list, managed to flick through one other. But I've shelves of books here I can claim people should read :-)
