I have my wedding speech coming up in a couple of months. I am incredibly nervous about the whole thing but I want to start rehearsing so I know it off by heart and I don't have to read it off a sheet etc.

What's the best way to memorise my speech?

Any other advice you may have is very welcome

Thanks

Write key words for each topic in your speech on a small piece of paper and cup it in your hand. It should be easy to look at it discreetly now and then. Good luck! Ruthiex
there is nothing wrong with reading off a sheet, so long as it remains on the table, and not held up in front of your face.

however, this is what worked for me some years ago...........

break it up into segments, paragraphs or 'chapers' if you will.
memorise each one before you move onto the next one.

when you come close to the day, think of a title for each piece, write down on a sheet only the title (rather like a bullet-point list).

have the sheet on the table on the day, and when you briefly glance at a title - it will, hopefully, make you remember the paragraph to which that title belonged.
ps.......good luck
When my daughter got married I gave her away and had to make a speech. I was so nervous. I divided it up into segments and wrote each one out on a postcard. I learnt each one in turn until I was word perfect. I kept them on the table where I could see them on the day. It went perfectly, I was so proud.
Hope yours goes as well.
I've been the father of the bride three times and found that no matter how hard I rehearsed the speech most of it went out the window on the big day.
I have found that a funny poem about the occasion goes down well though if you are that way inclined.
