Getting Rid of paperwork

I've got years worth of old bank statements, etc I need to get rid of preferably in the next two weeks.

I was going to burn them in the yard at work but landlord said we're not allowed anymore.

I could use the shredder at work but I've got so much it would take me forver and the last time I did a bulk the bloody thing started smoking.

What other options are there for getting rid of it all? I don't really want to pay anyone to take it and destroy it (can't afford that at the moment)

I think that the problem with shredded stuff is that it can contain bits of staple, bits of plastic, shredded credit cards and computer discs as modern shredders will do the lot...it's therefore not saleable as waste for recycling.
Ps hmrc will be lucky as I didn't get paper bank statements
I put our shredded stuff into the paper bank at our local recycling centre.

Peering inside I can see I am by no means alone.
My shredder's by the desk here - shred as you go, and put it in the paper recycling. We don't put non-paper items in the shredding.
Agree with ummmm. Add very little detergent to warm water, and swish around occasionally. The print will all blur, and clumps will dry out stuck to each other.
why not just buy a shredder though? They're cheap and it saves all that effort of making papier maché?
There are shredders and shredders. Mine only shreds to about 1/8" so tend to put the paper in at a diagonal angle.
Wait for next Nov 5th & chuck the lot on the bon-fire with the guy.

Our council won't take shredded paper - they say it's because it creates a problem when they come to baling it with the rest of the stuff.
Telly on - two bin bags - just tear up into smallish bits whilst enjoying cuppa and telly and as you go put handfuls of same document either side of you into different bags.
