This picture shows Nurse and Medical Attendants(Male) from the same period as your picture.
So your man might also be a Medical Attendant,guys who helped the hurse with heavier tasks.

I don't think Doctors (then) would "lower" themselves to be phographed with Nurses,and even if they did they would be dressed in a formal suit.

I still reckon male nurse from a mental hospital. They used to wear lightweight navy cotton jackets and collar and tie....silly really the collar and tie as they used to get grabbed by them, I think they went over to clip ons before getting rid of the tie.

Yep, you are probably right Woofgang. I don't think a porter would be included in a group photo with nurses anyway.
