My friend was very good to a little ole lady in a home - not related but the lady put her down as a friend. However when she died last year she left 10,000 which my friend had her passbook but handed it over to her nephew. However friend has received a bill for dental work that the old lady received. The nephew does not want to know but I said to my friend that I thought your debt died with you. The amount was 250. What is the correct procedure.

Unless your friend agree to pay the bill, the debt belongs to the estate and assuming there was enough in the estate to cover it (which sounds like it's the case) then the executor is legally responsible fo settling the debt. Is the nephew the executor? Maybe you can get a copy of the probate details from the probate office. Anyway

thanks for that - my friend thought that too - the debt belongs to the estate.
