I am a single parent to two wonderful boys who I have raised on my own for 7 years now. 4 years ago I met a man that I "thought" I was going to spend the rest of my life but last September found out otherwise, I was devastated to say the least, however he kept me on a short leash and I became pregnant in February of this year, I gave birth to a beautiful little boy in October permaturely, already strugging on my own with two other children, I made the decision to give the baby up for adoption so he could have a bettter life. My situation is this, the babies father never knew I kept the baby, he and I had words in June and the police were involved, since then we never spoke so I never told him I continued with the pregnancy. The courts have demanded that he sign away his parental rights as not to have any legal problems down the road. He doesn't want anything to do with the baby, so I don't understand why he just won't sign the papers. He said that if he signed them I would want money from him...he doesn't have any money as he is unemployed. I don't want money but he doesn't seem to believe me. What can I do?

it depends where you live either UK or ireland whether you csn give the bsby up for adoption without fathers consent. Perhaps the best thing is to let him know you don't feel able to care for the child and are seeking to adopt it which would make him realise you are not seeking money.
On a more practical level you face a tough time have you thought about whether there are any supports you could get to help you cope with the children. Giving a child up for adoption is a very tough decision which I am sure you already know. You will always carry that child in your heart good luck
is his name on the birth certificate, if not I would not have thought he had any rights

he is not on the birth certificate, the baby was born in Florida where I left him to be adopted, he is what is called a Putative father in the US and the courts require him to sign a legimation and then the termination of parental rights..because i knew who and where the father was, i was sworn to release the information in probate court for the adoption process
Y not deny him as father and say u dont know who the father is.

If u admit the birth to the father he may claim the child to adopt....would that be okay with you?

he doesn't want anything to do with him, he has already told me, he still will not sign the papers as he believes once he does, I will go after money...it's not about money, I just want what is best for a wee boy, a life I know I can't give him right now.
