Is it possible to get a copy of adoption papers like you can with birth certificates, I was born in wedlock my sister, was not, we were told that although we had the same Father he had to adopt her to give her his name legally, we would like to know at what stage the adoption took place, can anyone help, this all took place in the forties or early fifties.

Although it's possible for adopted people to find their birth records ( https://www.gov.uk/adoption-records/accessing-your-birth-records ) there's no central register of adoptions.

The Adoption Search Reunion website is probably the best place to get information about tracking down adoption records but it seems to be temporarily down at the moment:
