Jerry Morton, the 'Coronation Street' character played by Michael Starke, seems to have been unpopular from the beginning. In fact, the whole Morton clan are to be axed from the soap before the end of the year.

Ken Hopkirk in 'The Royal' seems to have been a general favourite. Why did Michael Starke succeed in one soap and not in the other?

I remember him very well (I'm in my 60's!) He was one of the main characters back in the very early days of Corrie. I really look forward to seeing whether his character is still the same now he is an old man. For us oldies, it will be very interesting.

Jed Stone was in 'Coronation Street' from 1961-66. He was a petty criminal who became a surrogate son for Minnie Caldwell. He came to the street to entice Dennis Tanner back into a life of crime, but had a quick personality change to endear him to Minnie's heart. He was full of get-rich-quick schemes which always seemed to backfire, he ran a market stall, opened an auction room, a boarding kennels and stored old waxworks. His attempts at romance - with Jean Stark and Doreen Lostock - were even less successful than his business ventures. In 1966, he was arrested for handling stolen goods and sent to prison for nine months.
well I'll go to the foot of ower stairs ower Ena, haha....
so he is Lottie, thanks for that...he was one of my mum's favourites too.
My sister will be pleased to see Peter back ...not my cuppa tea, I kept telling her he was a weasel

sorry about your thread DSJ! you've woken a few fans up....

I'm not sure that I want to see Jed Stone back because I'd rather remember the character as he was all those years ago. When Ray Langton (Neville Buswell) returned to meet Tracy, his daughter, recently it was rather a shock.
yes I read that the bookies are going in the Autumn
Hopefully DSJ, and if the Corrie Team are wise, they will bring Jed back with the same personality as an old timer, still up to tricks and still wearing his flat cap!! Perhaps they will pair him up with Blanche - now that would be an odd couple, but hilarious.

I agree with you about Ray Langton. He looked dreadful, but then he was portraying a dying man.

Anyone think Mel Morton (think that's what she's called, the one who's a copper) looks like Raquel, the barmaid from the Rovers? I think the likeness is uncanny. They are not related.

BTW, I think IMHO stands for 'in my humble opinion', not 'in my honest opinion'. :-]
yes, mrs chappie, that's been said before on here...bring back Raquel too :o)
............and Curly too!

Question Author
Racquel was a lovely character. I can't see any likeness to PC Morton. Perhaps it's because I dislike the Mortons so intensely that I don't want to make a comparison!

I would like to see Curly back, too, but his wife now has a job in 'Doctors' as a senior policewoman. I don't suppose she would want a pay cut to move back to Weatherfield!
