"Quiddler" (18th century) One who focuses on unimportant issues as a way of
avoiding the important ones; who fiddles while Rome (etc) burns.

Quite a few quiddlers around.

fusion between quid ( latin for what)
and fiddler?

I meet regular quiddlers - they dont want to work, and the really good ones dont do a stroke!
