I can’t believe anyone born after 1960 would be able to make any sense of such a plan – perhaps we should go the whole hog and use shillings and pence.

Good thing I haven’t thrown out my old imperial spanner/socket set.

You didn’t read the whole article.
I'm Ok with going back to Imperial. What is stupid is running Imperial measures alongside Metric. I'm sure the younger generation are easily adaptable back to Imperial. BTW I still have all my Imperial spanners and sockets and ,I ,often still have use for them.
I can't see anything new being proposed there.
You mean we might be going back to pints of beer and speed limits in miles per hour, the six yard box will be reintroduced in football... and baby's will have there weights given as things like 7lb 3 ounces
Has Phil done a video you could put up for it
Doubt it Bob. He’s probably read and understood the article.
Bring it on. I still drink pints of beer and convert every purchase to LSD.
Letting folk trade in either is surely a personal freedom. Fine by me. We already had the sense to retain pints for beer. Gallons would be useful for petrol. Then mpg is easier to calculate.
OG: in France it's Litres per kilometer (or something like that.) Means nothing to me.
Atheist - the other way up ie, litres per 100 KM. In some respects it's more sensible in that the higher the number the higher is the fuel consumption.
Tyre measurements still use a mixture of metric and imperial.
I like metric for calculations but like many people still know my weight in stones not kg, my height in ft and inches, travelling distances in miles. Ask 100 people there weight or height, even young people, and I guess 90% will give imperial answers
Tyre sizes changed when radial-ply tyres were introduced; having different notations was intended to avoid mixing the two types which can be dangerous.
There seems to be a lot of mythology surrounding the EU/UK and metric/imperial debate. The EU did not exclude any measures they just stipulated that the metric equivalent should be specified and even then UK had exemptions for pints, miles etc. Similarly here the UK is not forcing anything on anyone.
When working in education before I retired I had a group of ladies who were doing basic maths. One of the younger ones told me she did not "do" imperial as she was too young and was only taught metric. I asked her what size of shoes she wore - oh 5s. How tall are you - 5'2". What approx do you weigh - oh about 9st 5lbs. I then asked her to give me those in metric and she hadn't clue (neither did I by the way). We all had a good laugh and agreed imperial and metric could exist side by side.
I must admit to being rather confused by this post. Have Coutts not apologized? have they retracted that apology? This seems to me to be an obsessional "bee in the bonnet" type post.
^^ wrong thread!
it is a plan
a but like abolish.ing IHT ( they didnt / wont)

it will make an absolute mess of exports - which will have to be metric anyway. I bet someone on AB floated this to a brayne damaged shell shocked MP. I have the names of the usual suspects
Kardashev

keep your eye off the ball I quite like the resulting posts

Remember ---- er never dismiss the role of sheer incompetence in a good going cack up. I think she ( Rosie that is!)- rosie the wrecker, rosie the farage slayer - thought that it wd all blow over and Farage wd be off her hands. No change and she cd get on with debanking the non-woke

What DOESN'T seem to hvae been taken into account ( this is not too rambly for AB is it) that debanking seems to means watchlist

so other banks are told to beware of X - and are not aware that it is because he is non-woke - - that is THEY wd not have ebanked on the same critieria

There is case law on this
case law that the decisions of quasi legal tribunals ( Coutts debanking jobbie) should NOT be taken on board as decisions in other venues. It should be reheard - ( because the evidence and its admissibility may be different)

spot on _ towargnaze perhaps - I didnt note it as I thought 'yeah obvious really'
