Just bought a jar of sauerkraut which says to be eaten within 2 days of opening. Is this normal?

It should stay good for at least 4 months after opening - what brand is it?
I used to get Vadasz raw sauerkraut from Sainsbury's which was naturally fermented and full of live bacteria. That had to be eaten within 14 days and was good for your gut and I think it kept fermenting.

Pasteurised has dead bacteria but is tasty as a side dish. I suppose it has to be eaten quickly in case bad bacteria start occurring.

I keep it for about four days once opened by the fifth day it starts to go a bit furry, however if I cook with it, e.g with frankfurters, it freezes really well
