Are you dumping the fish into a tank that's been uncycled?

Found this site- tanks need to "mature" (for want of a better word) a couple of weeks before fish are added.

Maybe a bit more info would help.....where they live, what they're living with, any oxygen, filteration, planting etc etc
Question Author
they in a 30 litre biorb with oxygen pump no plants thats it. I do the usual climatising thing with new fish but for whatever reason they keep dying
Isn't that a tropical set up?
Question Author
no you can get tropical biorbs but mine aint
Dunno what else to suggest then, sorry. Other than looking on that site up there ^^^
There are one or two good forums out there, I have tropicals so me giving you a link to the forum i'm a member of is a waste of time!

But at the end of the day, sometimes, with the best will in the world fish can and often do just die.....one of mine kicked the bucket tonight :-(
here's my tips:
check the nitrate and PH levels of the water. If a fish shows any sign of illness, then isolate it immediately and if possible, take it to your local aquarium for advice on treatment.

Most coldwater fish need air, so ensure that your pump is feeding air into the water.

fish need room to grow. are you overstocking your tank?

is the aquarium you purchase the fish from, reputable? they could be stocking diseased fish

Are you over feeding? If food is left un-eaten, then remove excess food as that will kill them too.

Clean your filters each week and replace per manufacturers recommendations

Check with the aquarium what PH levels your fish requre, as some need different levels to others.

only change a quarter of the tank water at a time, and siphen off faeces from the gravel at least once a week.
