I've been in Scotland for a few days and am really enjoying the "local foods" - Haggis, Scots Pies, Bridies, Tablet, Pint of Heavy, Caboc cheese, Empire Biscuits - it's not that these are unobtainable in Sunny Northants, just that they seem much more attractive in their home setting.

What local delicacies do you like eating when you're away from home?

Soay lamb is good too - although they are tiny wee critters & don't feed that many.
Let's agree that all regional lamb is lovely. :-)
Jellied eels pie & mash, east end ;)
Dave - OH has just chewed his way through the last of the Selkirk Bannock we brought home and I have Lorne sausage in the freezer - enjoy!

I always try local foods when away and nearly always like them. When in France I learnt to eat snails etc. (drew the line at frogs'legs on humane grounds). Poitevin 'Choux Farcie' is hard to love unless
into cabbage and fat.

Andouillette takes a bit of getting used too, jourdain - especially the rustic Breton versions.
Not a baked bean man sunny-dave.
Nope, there's only one lamb, Cross Fell fed on Solway Firth grass....I'll add that to my Lakes list.
delish, I went on a course to learn andouillette, rillette, terrine, boudin making one August on the western edges of Paris in a local deli....great fun and learning!
Sorry, never could get to grips with andouilettes - I think it is the smell, which is actually worse than the taste. Otherwise, I did pretty well and expanded my palate.
On a weekend break, wife and I had a lovely meal of salt marsh lamb. When we returned home I overheard her telling a friend about the delicious sea salt sheep we ate.
Dave, can you get faggots and grey peas oooop there ?.
Whitstable oysters. Yum..
Husband came from a wee village in the North East of Scotland called New Pitsligo. Smith's the bakers made butteries to die for. Sadly closed down now. Wherever I travel I always try the local cheeses.
Ah, butteries, Maggie - I remember them! My mouth's watering now...
